Why does ESPN still call forwards "Strikers"?

I haven't heard that term since I was 5 except on ESPN UK.

  1. they call them strikers because that's what they r. strikers and forwards are the same thing. if u knew anything about soccer, u wouldn't have had 2 even ask the question.


  2. its because the U.S. espn doesn't really  like soccer and strikers and forwards have always meant the same thing because striker means someone who scores or shoots who is the forward.

  3. Its a term coined for the fact that they were the ones

    who most frequently struck the ball. Its a folk term

    but over the years the home teams have gotten

    much more soccer sophisticated that the "pet

    names" given only live in the hearts of the Fans.
