Irish_bi: Here's a news story from the Independent about the GPO. Apparently, they're not expecting an uproar: http://www.independent.ie/national-news/dublins-gpo-to-close-only-to-rise-again-as-a-smart-shopping-centre-1037814.html

  1. We are Irish and we are always naturally distrustful of any government. It is our natural and cynical duty to ***** and moan about everything and not do anything to change it :-)

The Fianna Fail government has done quite a few things wrong in my opinion but for the most part have generally improved the lifestyle in Ireland, helped bring about peace in the North etc. As much as any government can they have supported the creation of Jobs and industry which have made Ireland one of the richest countries in the world.

This has made us extremely wealthy and caused house prices and other living expenses to sky rocket and we will moan about that too

You cannot compare Irish politics with that in the states there is far less of an urban rural divide so your theory of people in the south and west not getting a good education is both incorrect and frankly insulting, I am hoping you are referring to your own country and not Ireland in that regard. Even in the US people tend to vote Democrat in most urban areas and Republican in rural (not a hard and fast rule, but a generalisation)

  2. they get in to government because despite peoples complaining about the government people still really like the current government .they get criticised but have done lots of great things for the country in the past .They are seen as the peoples government

  3. I would sooner see Bertie there than have a Fascist Blue Shirt Fine Gael government,And for anyone to call Fine Gael Party a remnant of Michael Collins party is a joke ,,They Squandered that currency in the 20s and 30s with their pro Franco Fascist stance when General Eoin O'Duffy  led the so called Irish Brigade to help slaughter poor Spanish peasants   after he had finished Slaughtering poor Irish ones O Duffy was also a pro treatyite,And a lousy b*****d He will never be forgotten in Limerick or Kerry nor will Fine Gael

  4. Re above.

Eamon de valera was a n**i sympathiser who offered his sympathies to the german people on hearing of hitlers death.

Proportional representation is the reason for fianna fail geting into power. Its a useless way of deciding an election.

If you are going on historical triumphs and laying economic success you must also consider that fianna fail were also the cause of mass emigration in the eighties and have the record of having the most corupt members.

Fine gael and labour gave us the abolishment of uni fees, can you say that that had anything to do with economic success.

Bertie has taken bribes and has failed to acknowledge the huge impact John bruton had on the peace process. most of the work was done and bertie plagerised brutons work as he entered office.

The worst thing about bertie is his lies, when the debate over his payments occured he took a week to tell what really happened, in my opinion if you dont tell it straight away you are a liar.

Fianna failure are ignorant and do not care about the ordinary irish people, they have the ear of the rich, look at the beverly flynn issue

Basically the answer to your question is the irish people gave the majority of the vote to other parties but proportional representation put fianna failure in power.

  5. It's simple. Bertie and his band of happy ponces are helping the rich get richer. Property developers, bankers, lawyers etc etc etc are all benifiting hugely from Fianna Fails time in power. Fianna Fail also benefit from these by receiving huge amounts of cash in big brown envelopes that are then hidden away in off-shore bank accounts until someone goes and tells on them and then they go on the national news and cry about how they were going through a rough time etc etc blah blah blah. Anyways I've kinda gone off course here. The point I was making is that all these rich, happy friends of Fianna Fail all band together and come election day they happily skip down to the polls to support their friend Bertie.

The mere mortal citizens of Ireland however are outnumbered. Theres also a huge beleif that 'their vote wont make a difference. Some of it yeah could also be through a lack of education. But the main point that needs to be put across is that every vote counts!

What Fianna Fail is doing to the Hill of Tara is a national disgrace. They are money hungry, greedy, uncultured buffons. Please god in the next five years they will be put on the scrapheap, because its where they deserve to be!

P.S I live in Ireland and I never heard anything about a shopping mall i the G.P.O It's too small for starters and as much as they are intent on destroying the Hill of Tara, there would be absolute uproar if they tried to touch te G.P.O It is one if not the most important building in Ireland historically. I think someone was pulling your leg, or else were hugely misinformed. Look up what they are doing to the Hill of Tara though. And sign any of the petitions that you see x

    ANY IRISH READING THIS, VOTE!

  6. Many older voters in Ireland believe that Fianna Fail are the real Irish party or the Republican party so they will only vote them no matter how badly they work while in power.  They believe Fine Gael to be facist/british wannabes and will never vote for them no matter what (my parents are some of these older people i talk about)

Its weird that Fianna Fail were actually created out of the anti-treaty band of rebels which has headed by Eamon deValera, while Fine Gael were created from the remnants of Michael Collins pro-treaty party.  Most people don't realise this of course
