Question:

Why does Firefox take so long to open?

Not only when I start up my computer does everything take a while to start up, but in the middle of having been using my computer for.. Perhaps an hour.. I close firefox, and come back to it later. When I come back to it later however, it takes something like 5 minutes to open. (I'm not just exaggerating for the sake of exaggerating.. It really takes about 5 minutes..)

I've closed most programs in the bottom right, so no aim, no msn, just the necessary stuff..

I've done virus/spyware scans and nothing is found, so I don't think it's that. I'm downloading.. yet another.. computer scanner.

If there is anything I can do to make this happen faster, or make my computer generally go faster I'd be glad to know.

  1. Do you have the new Firefox 3 yet.

I was thinking about downloading it, but if you have it and your having problems i think i will hold off.

  2. when Firefox is open clear private data (CTRL+SHIFT+DEL)

it sounds as if you may have a bad addon or too many addons - some toolbars and extensions can seriously slow down Firefox.

To test this, try opening Firefox in safe mode to see if it responds more quickly

    go to start>all programs>mozilla firefox>safe mode

    reference

there are extensions and applications that claim to speed up Firefox (notably Fasterfox) but while your browsing experience may improve, the start up time is unlikely to be snappier.

  3. dude I have the same problem!!

what I do is leave open firefox,

then when I come back to the computer I wait for it to load and then exit out of the firefox session i was in previous to leaving my computer.

You the restart firefox and it should work.

it takes less than 5 minutes.

    :)

good luck with it and IM or email me if you need more help!

  4. You have to stop them from booting up in msconfig. Because you closed them does not stop them from booting up where your ram memory is being taken.

Go to start, then  run type in msconfig then click ok.

In msconfig the boot up tab you can disable all but the necessary ones needed to operate you computer.

You need your key board, mouse, anti virus etc to run computer safely.

Remember it only disables it from boot up and they can still be used by clicking on them.

My necessary ones are PS2,(mouse) KBD, (key board) Rec Guard, CC App. Plus my anti virus etc.

  5. Ctrl+Alt+Delete

Under Processes tab, look at what is using up the most memory and end them.
