Question:

Why does GM of Canada not honour signed contracts and warranties?

I have a 2.5 year old Supercharged SS Monte Carlo, bought new, that now has about 30,000 kms on it. I purchased Rust Control, Rust Protection, Paint Protection and the top GM Warranty. Two rust spots formed on my car on each side between the front doors and the front wheels. I take it to GM and they refuse to cover "that kind of rust". What exactly did I pay for? I take it to GM head office and they still won't cover it. I was told that GM sells the agreements from a third party, so it is not GM's problem. What kind of logic is this? If Wal-Mart sells me a Sanyo TV and it breaks, do I have to go to Sanyo. It is not Wal-Mart's problem? Has anyone else had a similiar situation? Can taking this to court be successful? A class action suit perhaps? Please reply anyone and everyone.

  1. If you read the fine print of your warranty, they may only warranty rust through.  In other words, if the rust ate a hole you can shine a light through. They might exclude surface blemishes.

  2. All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first).   Surface rust is not covered.  Under the extended warranty, sheet metal is also not included, the extra rust coverage is for concealed parts, seams, etc, not surface rust.  I suggest a visit to the dealer's body shop to repair the spots while they are simple and inexpensive to repair.
