The display on my brand new Vizio 42" 1080p flatscreen tells me the game is running in 720p. How do I get it to 1080p?

  1. I don't know.  The back of the box says it can run in 1080p.  I also have a Vizio 1080p flatscreen.  When I watch a blueray movie it plays in 1080p.  When I put GTA 4 in it switches from 1080p to 720p.  Ive tried to go through the ps3 menu but cant find anything to change it.  So I'm in the same boat as you wondering the same thing.

  2. Any video displayed on a 1080P set is displayed in 1080P. What your set is telling you is the resolution of the input signal. If the input is 720P, the set upconverts it to 1080P by adding 360 lines of resolution so it can be displayed as 1080P.

But, the set still tells you what the input is.

All HDTV is either 1080i or 720P, depending on the channel.

  3. They didn't format it for 1080p, probably because they had it formatted in 720p for the past 3 years that they've been working on it, because back then 1080p was considered to be to expensive. They also wanted to get it out as soon as possible, so they wouldn't go back and upgrade it. That's just what I think at least.
