Why does Hong Kong, China have its own delegation in the March of Nations?

And on that note: "The People's Republic"? I thought China was communist.

  1. 1 - Chian is not real communist country.

2 - HK olympic committee has existed before 1997.

  2. hong kong is also a special adminstrative region, the laws there are different than on the mainland. its  one of the most capitalistic and open free market places on earth.

  3. HK must enjoy such privilege... It has been colonize for so many years & China has promised HK No Changes for the next 50 years...

  4. Hong Kong has it's own delegation as part of the agreement for the handover of Hong Kong from British rule back to China in 1997. China agreed to give it some level of autonomy. So while it is very limited, and nothing like western countries, there is technically some democracy in Hong Kong (although it is set up so the leader is still pretty much chosen by China). Their financial system on the other hand is still one of the most free market in the world and capitalism is as liberal as any other western nation. Since HK was sending it's own Olympic delegation before the handover, the Chinese government allowed this to continue past 1997.
