Why does India suck so bad at the Olympics?

No seriously. This isn't meant to be derogatory but there are almost as many people in India as there is in China. Yet they have had one single individual gold medal in the last TWENTY years. Haha. What is going on here?? I mean they can play sports no one cares about like cricket and break guiness records in contorting or whatever but in sports they seem to not have any capable athletes.

Maybe some Indians can give us an answer..not trying to be derogatory but really..ONE individual gold medal in 20 years?!

You only have good countries(India) against great countries(US, China)

I am an Indian, myself, so I know where you're coming from with this.

I think Russell Peters put it best when he said, "We [Indians] are not cut out for physical activity! We're not built for it! Gimme a calculator, I'll do your taxes."

But, I'm really into sports, and have been all my life. I play basketball, football, tennis, volleyball, swimming, futbol, biking, and a little baseball.

People over in India just don't have the money to splurge on luxuries like sports, y'know? They don't have the necessary courts/fields/pitches, etc.

Being one, I can probably explain why. We don't have a lot of money to invest in sports because we're not a very developed nation. Besides, India tends to have more talent in other areas. We place a lot of emphasis on academics, and some people even look down on sports. There are also more talented people in the music, film and modelling industry. But they are  pretty good in the Asian Games though.

we Indians are chronically blown up people ..we like to do things our way...even if it spells RED.

Just listen to our TV & Sports commentators......It's so shameful....they don't allow our sports people to be normal ...& tend to blow them up..& it beomes difficult t live up.

CORRUPTION.. .....without it , we donot know how to get things going.....

Like in the case of a promising wt.lifter monika devi.......in addition to corruption, there must be some deeper rotten matter..like not conforming to the wishes (including s*x advances) of the coach/selection incharges etc.

We may blame the Govt......but the people incharge (burocrats & officials etc. ) eat up all that is meant  for sports promotion......If U don't belive, just go & visit some of the SAI hostels...what these youngsters are fed & what's the environment /equipment/health back up..(medical facilities) etc.

The attitude , approach ,sense of sacrifice are unheard of.......what all these people are doing  is simply....being on the job waiting for pay packet at the end of month....& looking forward like vultures to grab every additional incentive that the Govt.may sanction. As long as Hockey was new to others, India won...so was Kabbadi.....now that others have come to know ...we don't have chance at all.

Other's do the Doing; we do the Bragging. Actually we are not that money-crazy or publicity (class/status) crazy..but we donot prefer

non:-- publicity, status-transforming, cash-loaded,match-fixable sports.

Our gold medallist ......I do not blame him, but come 15Aug.& medals are awaiting to be awarded ...such is the incentive... BRAVO.....But all this is after some one on their own manages to win. In India ,If U come back alive from the war front U'll be greeted with flowers and THEY'LL  celebrate, but if U come back dead ...U may find that  even your coffin has been traded off.

So many coaches are on the pay roll....has any one dared to ask them ..to show what/whom/how-many they have been able to mould & bring up of Internaltional level?

Nay ! ! In India these's non to ask, because it's non of their business....&..Nay ! !...the coaches or the likes are not obliged to answer...it's their Right ..this is what we fought the British for.
