Why does Iran Condemn McCain for his cigarette joke., Is it really that big of a deal?

Joke seem to target Iranian population in general instead of its government & leaders who are doing bad things. Iranians in general don't hate US people although they may hate US foreign policy. It was dumb joke and you just don't make general statement like McCain made that can be interpreted in many ways.

When the US was wrangling with Saddam before Iraq War 2003 we didn't say let's kill them Iraqis, we said let's take Saddam down.

Iran is so pathetic. They like going to "Death to America" rallies and burn our flag....But make one little  joke about cigarette and they go "That is so hateful against Iranians!...How dare you!".

That is a good sign. I like it when Iran and the other fruitcake leaders condemn the USA. That means we are doing something right. Why didn't the mullahs just announce they have no smokers in Iran?
