Question:

Why does KJV translate Romans 1:20 as "Godhead" ?

I looked this up in the greek, and both Westcott-Hort and Textus Receptus record the original as "Theiotes."

Here's the whole verse in KJV:

"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and GODHEAD; so that they are without excuse"

It's obvious NWT would not want to use "Godhead," but why doesn't NWT translate it as 'divinity' ?

    For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

    New American Standard Bible:

    For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

    I can go on and on, but that would make me a troll.  Get The Point?


  2. A lot of people don't agree with the way that he translates the Bible.  I wonder the same thing because the words they use are not like the original language.

       I find it interesting that God's divine nature is seen in His creation and that it is clearly seen by all, therefore men are without excuse. :)

  3. I think KJV is more accurate....'divininty' is similar but portrays a word that is a little more appropriate when trying to ascribe God characteristics to humans.
