I was thinking along the same line as the answerer before me. Tyson was known for wearing black truck and black shoes, so why not match with a black mouth piece. That would have been my immediate guess.

Becuase boxers need to wear them to protect teeth and brain and jaw, the black is intimidating, mean, it gives him that mean col hearted feal

maybe the black mouthpiece is easier to spit out and then bite your opponent.

I guess it's just a personal choice.  He probably prefers it over the clear plastic looking one.

I remember an Interview with Tyson years ago before his prison stint and he was asked about his attire, why he wore a black towel instead of a robe, why he wore black shoes with no socks and why did he switch from the white trunks of his earlier career . Tysons reply was uncharacteristic of the guy that he became later but he said " Black is beautiful"

So that's it I guess, the man likes black. The other guys there already said it.
