Why does Mitsubishi TV flicker when watching DVR recordings & not on live TV?

I have a Mitsubishi 55" TV that flickers when watching DVR recordings. It does not flicker when watching live television or a DVD. I have unhooked everything and tried different video inputs, including s-video, coax, RCA, all one at a time with all having the same result. Anyone seen this before?

  1. It could be the DVR. Are you recording in HD?  I've noticed on my HD-DVR our TV will 'flicker' when watching HD recordings sometimes.

I have a Panasonic 60" TV.  It also makes a difference if you've got LCD, plasma or rear project.

[EDIT]  With you saying you have a rear projection, then I would say it's the TV.  Standard def or HD rear projections tend to have that 'flicker' for some reason.  Not even sure why.

My 60" is a rear projection, but it is HD and it does it sometimes, but not all the time.  I'd say more not than so.  But you'll probably have better luck without the flicker with the RCA's compared to any of the other connections.

I also read somewhere that standard def TVs that do NOT have a digital signal (meaning you'd have to get the converter box come Feb. 2009) will be seeing interruption problems with their service providers, due to the transitions they're having to make for the digital move.
