  1. Slick lawyers are employed by many, many companies, not just NationWide.  They thrive on demeaning people.  Sadly, it sounds as if they succeeded here

  2. thats why i have insurance with a real company...State farm.

  3. What kind of claim was this?  What receipts were they looking for?  Are you insured with Nationwide, or did somebody file a lawsuit against your wife and you?   Did you file a lawsuit against somebody.  Insurance attorneys usually do not become involved in the claims process unless there is a lawsuit pending.

  4. They dragged YOU into court and asked for proof?  Extremely unusual.  They don't usually bother, unless they're suing you on behalf of one of their policy holders - in which case, why would YOU need to cough up receipts?

If, however, you are suing THEM, then they do get a chance to ask you to prove that you had stuff that you're claiming - especially if they think it's fraudulent.

Best thing, if you can't come up with receipts, is to call all your friends and family for the past 20 years, and get photos of holiday events that happened in the house.  The photos will prove that the "stuff" was there.
