Why does New Jersey make teenagers wait so long for their license?

I'm 16 and I'll be 17 in October. I was looking at other state driving ages online and teenager and other states can actually get their LINCENSE at 14. I got my learner's permit the earliest NJ allows (16) and I had to go to driving school for six hours. I even had a 98 on the written test and yet I still had to go and pay $300. The earliest I can actually get my license is 17 and that's only a provisional. I can't drive late at night and I can't give more than one of my friends rides at a time. I don't get my full license until I'm 18. Why is NJ so strict about driving? Why does it seem like their out to get teenage drivers? I think if they could get it passed they would try to move the driving permit age to 21.

  1. Most states range between 16 and 17. I've never heard of a state at 14 unless it was a farmer's license. It has been 17 in NJ for decades. The reason they are so strict is because the percentage of accident's caused by teenagers is the highest out of any other age group because of the inexperience. Studies have also shown that teenage driver's with a car full of friends are more likely to get distracted and cause a accident.

  2. They do that so maybe you will live to be 21
