Why does Petsmart?

Question

why does petsmart put about 3 or 4 or maybe 5 hamsters in a cage together?? Won't they fight or something

Also they put multiple male guinea pigs together in a cage.

maybe because there from the same litter, but they shouldn't if there from different litters.

No they wont fight, I have 4 Hamsters together in the same cage & they get along fine, I also have 2 male Guinea Pigs together & they are like best friends, As long as there is not a Hamster or Guinea of the opposite s*x in the cage with them then they will usually not fight.

Because they don't have enough cages (or don't want to put in enough) to give every one their own cage or put them each in pairs.

when i got my hamster i asked the same question at petsmart. the guy there said that when they get more than one amount of hamsters that weren't from the same family they put the hamsters together by twos and see if they fight or not. if they do they don't go into the same cage. if they are good around eachother, then they are put together. Vote me for best answer please! hope i helped!

Because they are not there long enough and are usually not at the maturity level to begin to be territorial.  Rest assured that they do watch out for an occasional bad egg and will house them in another cage if necessary.
