  1. To whack Silly Philly on the head when he opens his mouth in decent company again.

  2. Because it's a lady like and fashionable thing to do.

  3. she is a lady

  4. Here's a link to an article that tells what she carries in her handbag. http://in.news.yahoo.com/071011/139/6ltd...

    Hope this helps...

  5. We all know she doesn't carry any money on her I think she carries a handbag ("A... handbag?!"from a welknown play) she'll carry other stuff like lipstick and her buspass lol.

  6. To hide her flask of booze.  If Charles was your kid you'd need to drink also.

  7. She keeps her business cards there (she gave me one, when I met her at Starbucks last night.)

  8. She carries her glasses, money for Church collection, handkerchieves, whatever she wants to carry in her bag.

  9. For her hanky and lipstick.

  10. She doesn't- but she does carry a handbag, as was very clear this morning at the Thanksgiving Service in Westminster Abbey to celebrate her diamond wedding anniversary with Prince Philip.

Rumour has it that the queen never carries any money or loose change,so she would not need, in theory what we Brits call a purse ( a pocketbook to us would more likely be a diary or a wallet- please learn our terminology, North American friend!).  Whether there is any truth to this has never been proven, but the handbag (or purse as you would confusingly call it!) is as much a part of a lady's wardrobe as her gloves.  Indeed, Margaret Thatcher -who some would say thought herself royalty- even made a verb out of hers.  To be handbagged by the Iron Lady was some punishment indeed.

Incidentally, in a rather dire playlet which was put on at Buckingham Palace in June 2006 at the end of the Queen's "official" birthday celebrations, the plotline revolved around efforts to retrieve her handbag- or was it her glasses- which contained her "speech", which had been stolen by the villain of the piece, a character from children's TV.
