Why does RCA TV has a blank black square on the screen?

It's an rca rear projection 52" hdtv and there is a blank black square in the middle of the screen towards the bottom. it goes away when i bring up the tv menu but goes right back when i clear it. PLEASE HELP!

That sounds like either a blank closed captioning or teletext background.  Check the menus and make sure closed captions are turned off.  Also, some TVs will go into closed caption mode when they are in MUTE.
