I like Rage and all but why do they support this guy. He is not some political prisoner or anything.

  1. Here's my best shot...

When you have people who read or hear only portions of a situation then make unqualified statements concerning the subject, you find yourself in a position where you are now....asking why someone supports someone else!

When reading the web info on Mumia Abu Jamal...one has to consider where the information comes from and is it biased. Of course it would be no matter who or what the subject!

Just as the defense has their side of the story...the prosecution also has theirs.

I've always believed there were three sides of every story....yours, theirs, and the real truth.

It was up to the jury to decide on guilt or innocence of Jamal...and they made their decision!

Looking at Rage Against the Machine...I see some people who've listened to only a part of the story and as such spoken publicly without hearing both sides.

After viewing the weblinks provided by previous responses....I'm pretty sure the correct decision was made by the jury.

It goes to show you that you can read one side of a story and think..."wow...they sure have a case of misjustice here"...when in fact...it's just hype to get public reaction to alter justice!

  2. Like the others who support him, they believe the hype and propaganda.

  3. From where I'm sitting the evidence for Mumia's innocence looks pretty strong and the evidence against him is pretty weak. Let's look at the evidence:

    1. Mumia's allegedly confessed at the hospital, this was a major key in his conviction, but the idea that this confession ever took place is highly unlikely. First of all, the officer who says that Mumia confessed, Gary Wakshul, didn’t report it to ANYBODY until two months later after Mumia filed a brutality suit against the police. More evidence that the confession never occurred is that in Wakshul’s own police report he wrote, and I quote, “The ***** made no comments”; if he confessed I think that’s something that you would want to make a note of. Further the attending physician when Mumia entered the hospital confirms that Mumia did not speak, nor could he have been able to speak when he allegedly confessed.

    2. The police NEVER tested Mumia’s hands for gun shot residue, nor did they even test the gun to see if it had been recently fired, had they simply done that I think there would be little doubt as to what happened that night.

    3. The prosecutions star witness was a prostitute named Cynthia White, if you look at her testimony it’s very clear that she was lying concerning her testimony against Mumia, if nothing else it’s clear that she is a highly un-credible witness. At the trial of Mumia’s brother, Billy Cook, she gave a totally different version of events compared to her testimony at Mumia’s trial.

    4. At a 1997 hearing Pamela Jenkins stated that at the time White was working for the police as an informant and that the police frequently practiced coercion.

    5. In 1995, William Singletary came forward and said that the police repeatedly tore up the statement that he was giving them until he signed a statement that they considered acceptable. And in 1996 Veronica Jones came forward and announced that the police had coerced her into changing her original testimony that she saw 2 men flee the scene. Billy Cook who was present and conscious during the entire shooting has sided with Mumia.

    6. Mumia could not receive a fair trial because of Judicial bias, Judge Sabo was known as a “prosecutor’s judge”. And to further add to his bias, in 2001 court stenographer Terri Maurer-Carter admitted that before the trial began she heard Judge Sabo say “Yeah, and I’m going to help them fry the n****r.”

This is only the tip of the iceberg, there’s a lot more evidence of his innocence. And if you’re saying to your self that the police would never do something like this, then I invite you to look at the case of Fred Hampton.

  4. Ultra left groups like that tend to hate "the man" and believe Abu Jamal is innocent....However, the evidence was certainly against Jamal and still is to this day.
