I assume you are talking about Rocky Balboa of the movie Rocky.  Supposedly, it gave him a lot of calories to burn off during his long morning run.  However, I think Stallone threw this into the movie just to grab peoples' attention.  It is one of two scenes in the movie that made much of the audience say "Eeuuuuuuu"!  

I would not do this minutes before running five/ten miles.   I know it would not help.
