Why does Roush/Fenway have to get rid of the 5th driver?

I heard it on qualifying. When 2010 comes around Roush/Fenway will be down to 4 drivers. Why?

Also, who do you think will be with Roush in 2010?

I think it will be:

1.) Carl Edwards-99

2.) Matt Kenseth-17

3.) Greg Biffle-16

4.) David Ragan-6

  1. Yes there is supposed to be no more than 4 drivers on a team after 2010  MCmurray seems to be the weakest link He will probably go away.  Ragan is a rising star and the other 3 have proven they can win

  2. DA BIFF is great

  3. Nascar is putting a cap on race cars per team. Only 4 cars are allowed. With the Roush/Yates alliance, wouldn't it make sense to just move Roush's 5th car under the Yates name. Don't even need to do much else besides some paperwork. Of all the drivers Roush has, I cannot believe Biffle is still there. He's had some great seasons, but many of them lately are mediocre at best. I think Biffle would be great at RCR. It's not a rumor, McMurray will not be back at Roush in 2009.

  4. Jamie's as good as gone unless Biffle bolts first.

  5. they've all said it above.  originally nascar wanted to limit the number of teams in one owner's stable to four by this year (or was it last year).  but they changed the rule as roush had five drivers then and it would not have been feasible to just dump one that quickly - so they sort of grandfathered him in by pushing the deadline back and encouraging other teams NOT to pick up a fifth.

the problem is that you can have "satellite" teams - teams still pretty strongly associated with the larger teams, but not officially owned by the same people.  roush and yates have that sort of arrangement.  jgr and hall of fame are close on that as well, as are hms and haas/cnc.  in the last case (hms and haas/cnc) they are so close that rick hendrick has taken over running the team "financially" while haas serves time in federal penitentiary for fraud or something similar.

    and mcmurray'll get the boot.

  6. nascar made a rule,

jamie will be odd man out

  7. Nascar made a rule where, in 2010,  a team can't have more that 4 cars. The rumor has it that Jamie  Mcmurray was told he wouldn't be back with Roush/Fenway but he denies the rumor but i think that he will be the driver let go because everyone knows that Roush won't get rid of edwards, kenseth or biffle. that leaves david ragan but he has shown alot of potential so i believe mcmurray will be let go.

  8. Because NASCAR has made a rule that there can be no more than 4 teams per owner.  Roush was given a few years to get rid of his 5th team.  This is to avoid a monopoly of sorts.

It will likely be Jamie McMurray.

  9. Nascar is making a new rule that every team can only have 4 drivers. I think they will get rid of Jamie Mac also!
