Why does Speaker Pelose want to risk drawing down our national oil reserve.?

She is obviously misdirecting the public away from her opposition to drilling for oil at home, nuclear power and other real solutions for our energy problems. Could there be any other reason, maybe trying to raise congressional approval rating.

also they  have pumped oil wells dry then came back and they had more oil in them then they had originally there is enough oil just that they know of to last 60 yrs plus what comes back in

It's not congress's opposition to domestic drilling that disturbs me.  It's their opposition to balancing the budget that makes me worry.  As long as they blame scapegoats, they get away with not attempting to do their jobs.

Pure Politics!

Two years ago she promised if Democrats were put into power, she had "a common sense plan to lower gas prices". How's that plan working for you America? Gas went up $.71 a gallon from 2001 to 2006 and since the Democrats control of the House & Senate it has gone up $2.00 a gallon. She actually thinks that depleting the Strategic Reserves she can offset gas prices.

The so-called speculators are nothing more than wise investors. With the Democrats promising to raise taxes on individuals and businesses, implement a Cap % Trade tax,  not opening up offshore drilling and wanting to bail out mortgage holder and banks, investors know better than to put their money into business stocks. So they are investing in commodities like oil, gold and food.

Supply and demand is everything. People here think the US is the only consumer of oil. Just because our demand has decreased because of the cost, does not mean the global demand is down. If we increase our own supply, we will calm the investors fears of future supply shortages.

Every other country that has oil is doing everything they can to get it out of the ground. They are giving huge tax breaks for exploration and development and buying up oil leases. We should be doing the same.

There is only a 33 day supply of oil in the reserves. It is for emergencies, not price reductions.

I can't understand why you will not accept the fact that oil speculation is driving the prices up. I simply cannot understand why everyone is so willing to allow a small number of people to drive our economy into the dirt and not demand that the government do something about it.

The Saudis say there is no shortage. I've never been turned away from a fueling station. Have you? You know you haven't. And you haven't because there is no shortage.

The Saudis say they would increase production if demand increased. But demand is decreasing and still the price goes up. The Saudis say the high prices are due to speculation and I believe them. I believed that two years ago and I'm absolutely certain of it today.

Pelosi is trying to affect the market by increasing the amount of oil available. But since there is no shortage, more oil in the market won't do anything to drive the prices down.

We have got to cut consumption and bankrupt the scum that have been driving the prices up and destroying our economy. We are being raped! We can't let the SOBs, who are profiting from it, get away with it.

I don't know.  The Democratic party line is that increasing supply by millions of barrels a day won't solve the problem of high prices.  If so, the trickle from the Strategic Reserve won't lower prices either.  Maybe she wants to make sure we won't have fuel if there is a crisis?
