Why does Stephen Colbert invite liberal guests on his show?

Is it because they are people his real life self would want to meet(he is a democrat), or is it so his character can "nail"

them?

btw i am a big fan of colbert and consider myself liberal

He does, I don't think he is quite liberal, compare him to John Stewart.
