Question:

Why does Steve Lyons never take the whistle these days?

Steve Lyons was a touch judge in the Broncos-Cowboys game the other night. He has refereed 50-odd first grade matches but hasn't had the whistle in his hands for a couple of years now. He now seems to be a specialist touch judge. Is there any reason for this?

  1. I don't know, perhaps some of the more into rugby league fans can enlighten you.Maybe he prefers it that way.

  2. Don't know why not, but I don't blame him at all.

I reckon refereeing is one of the toughest gigs around.

My son used to referee & got insults & threats regularly & that was only Mini & Mod football (under 6 through to under 12)

  3. because he's c**p he's just below the rest of them

  4. maybe he doesnt want to?

  5. Look first of all Refereeing at ANY level is really hard. I would know this how? I am a referee for Rugby League down here in Melbourne. Steve Lyons is not referee for a few reasons. He only wants to touch judge, he isn't  at the same level as he was a few years ago (rules wise and Central refereeing wise) and he is toning down his commitment to the NRL.
