Why does Subway in California charge sales tax on its Chicken Cheddar Bacon sub, but not on its Cold Cut Combo

The woman behind the counter said it's because "they have different meats." Well, yes, they do, but so?

  1. If it is a hot sandwich they can charge a sales tax, just not for anything cold (except for soda). Don't quite know why, that's just the way it is.

  7. All I can think of is maybe California has a tax on any meats that are from out of state or maybe they have an additional tax on local meats. I know when I go to Canada and return to the USA  I am charged a tax on any thing I buy in Canada if it is imported from another country.For instance if I buy a motorcycle helmet made in Canada there is no tax, if it is made in China  I pay a tax.
