Why does Sweden use a k in front of the time (k/20.35 for 8:35 p.m.)?

I'm such a dork...I originally posted this as Switzerland, not Sweden.

My Technical Writing professor told the class this. She said she didn't know why and I was curious.

  1. The Swedish word for clock is klocka.

    We say "5 o'clock," but they're more efficient and just stick a k there.
