  1. the guy is not Szayel Aporro Grantz, it's his older brother Ilforte Grantz.  grantz just says it in a slang kind of way, they are in no way related to one another.

  2. You got it wrong, Kristin

The person that calls Renji 'Kyoudai' (or what the translation says, 'brother') is Ilfort Grantz, Szayel's older brother (the one with long blond hair).

Renji did fought with Szayel later on but Szayel didn't call Renji 'brother'.

Well, I think Ilfort calls Renji 'Kyoudai/Brother' to mock him. He knew that Renji is weaker than him so he mocks Renji by calling him kyoudai/brother as if telling Renji that he respects him.

Anyone who is not related by blood can call others 'kyoudai' to show affection or respect towards the person.

And no, Renji and Ilfort are sooooo not brothers!

Renji is a Shinigami and an orphan.

Ilfort is a Gilian-class Arrancar and his baby brother is Szayel (who is an Acjuchas and waaay stronger than him)

Hope my info helps you Kristin =)
