Why does TV make on/off "click" sound but nothing happens?

When my son turned off the TV the other night, he said it made a louder CLICK sound, then next day it wouldn't go on! Now when we push the on/off button, we hear the "click" but nothing ever appears. Does anyone know what may have happened? Costs so much to have it repaired, may as well buy new one -- unless this sounds like something simple.....? Thanks for your help.

it's impossible to answer without looking at the TV. It could just be a bad contact or a bad relay, but in any case, a tech would have to look at it to be able to give you an estimate.
