  1. Because they don't like being under the thumb of an oppressive communist govt.  They want religious freedom.  They want China to stop sucking away at their natural resources.  They want their political and religion leader back without risk of imprisonment (Dali Lama).

  2. The "rulers" or "powers in control" in Tibet have been the monks. Its been under religious domination along with all the attendant abuses visited upon common citizens, everything from purchasing young women to serve the monks, to forcing the nuns to be their servants, etc. The religious group has been enormously wealthy while as in most religious dominated societies the common people had almost nothing.

China has established schools, hospitals, roads, railroads etc that have greatly benefited the common people. The religious groups that want to maintain their dominance and wealth have blown up or destroyed these hospitals, medical facilities, schools, or have tried to, all the things that benefited the common people -

By keeping them uneducated and poor the religious faction could maintain control over them.

Do your research. google "Tibetan monks abuse women" "Tibetan Nuns" or whatever. DONT just read what CNN or internet blogs say - you cant just take the word of protestors and fanatics. You should try to find out for yourself what the truth is

I also want to add the protestors seen on TV had dumped red paint over their heads to look like blood - no one with a very serious head injury is THAT happy or THAT active.

China has laws guaranteeing freedom of religion ! The lies about Christians being victimized and abused are just that - lies ! I am a Christian and I lived there for three years.

China prints more Christian bibles than any other country in the world, so HOW can people spread these lies?

There are fanatics operating inside China just as there are in other countries, does Waco Texas right a bell with anyone?

Fa Lun Gong is a terrorist group, they are NOT the pacifists they portray themselves as being in western countries. That little girl who was on fire at Tianimen Square student protests had gas poured over her by HER MOTHER - who was Fa Lun Gong and wanted to make China look REALLY bad.

Yes that was a bad time in Chinese history, the Mao Regime and the Chinese people suffered terribly - but today China isnt anything like it was then but people seem to believe time has stood still in China and nothing has changed. That is SO wrong.

There are so many good things happening in China, things that benefit the people.  The word communist scares people and its so illogical.  Its just a word ! Maoism wasnt communism, Leninism wasnt communism, there hasnt been a true communist governmetn ANYWHERE in the world until now.  So how can anyone judge it to be wrong?

How do you know? You dont know, you dont know what is going on inside China, with the Chinese people and you DONT know what a true communist government is like because you have nothing to base that knowledge on. It hasnt existed before.

  3. China does give you limited religious freedom... but why is religious freedom taken away from Fa Lun Gong? Because they became political and was about to cause an uprising in China what do you expect the government to do? ... and please... nothing is as bad as Western media claims.

  4. Well you have to ask the Tibetians.

Since there has not been a free vote of what the Tibetans want no one can truly say what they want, freedom, greater autonomy or to stay with China.

It is also wrong to assume that if Tibetians did get there freedom back that it would go back to the days of slavery, nor would the world allow it to. Many of the so-called slave masters of the old Tibet are either dead or they are on there way out, since the P.R. China banned slavery in Tibet ca 1951 when the Tibetans leaders signed the 17 point agreement a good 57 years ago.

  5. China is a vast country with large population but not powerful enough, anyhow Tibet was is and always is a part of China.

  6. It is a controversial topic. You should ask yourself instead, does Tibet want to be free? The answer is yes and no, many Tibetans outside of Tibet (many left in 1959 because of the occupation by the Chinese Military) wants Tibet to be free, but these people haven't been back to Tibet for at least 50 years, and most of them were part of the aristocracy lived in Tibet before 1959. These people of course are pursuing the freedom of Tibet.

The Tibetans living inside Tibet may feel different, I say may because we don't really know how they think of the changes the Chinese brought them in the last 50 years, this include modernization, many infrastructures, and others.

Gaining independence is not an easy task since many practical factors are involved such as the distribution of electricity, tourism, etc. Do Tibetans really want to go back to the way they were before 1959? After a taste of modernization and elimination of hierarchy within the Tibetan society? I don't know, but I am sure that not all Tibetans want Tibet to go free.
