I has to do with his mom and the meaning of red in regards to Zen stuff. His mom is Buddhist and believes practices Zen. Red is like the color of strength. I read a biography on Tiger and it talked about it.

Red in Chinese culture and Thai is symbolic of luck and prosperity.  Tiger took it to mean his good luck charm.  A lot of golfers are pretty superstitius.
