Question:

Why does Transunion report my EXPERIAN score lower than Experian themselves?

I understand Transunion is tougher and I expect their version of my score to be lower.

But what I don't understand is why on Experian's site, their report gives me one score, then when I get all 3 scores from the Transunion site, they report my Experian score as much lower?

  1. Actually, TransUnion uses the Vantage scoring system as well. You wouldn't get a FICO score from TransUnion unless you paid extra for it, and then, yes the range would be from 300-850. As stated on the TranUnion website, "Your credit scores can also vary a bit due to differences in the credit scoring formulas being used." So even though they use the same systems, your score may be calculated somewhat differently. Also, I would just double check both reports, and see if there are any slight differences in information.

  2. This is because Experian uses the Vantage score system and not FICO.

Vantage scores from 501 to 990 where FICO scores from 300 to 850.

Transunion and Exuifax both still use FICO so when you get your Experian score from Transunion it will be lower.
