  1. The statue was given to Tucson by Mexico in1981, with a wry sense of irony considering Pancho Villamade outlaw incursions into southern Arizona.

    "Tucson became known as a rowdy frontier town. Shootouts took place frequently and men rarely ventured unarmed onto the streets. Outlaws and upstarts like Pancho Villa frequented Tucson saloons. Still, the town prospered."

    He's more of a folk hero than anything else.  A bit of color to the city's history.
