Question:

Why does U.S. think they are always the best while they never appreciate China in the Olympic?

For gymnastic, the Chinese team won 9 golds while the U.S. won only 2 golds, but the American media NBC doesn't seems to appreciate China's efforts. When I watch the Men's gymnastic, when Chen Yibin got close to perfect ring match, the commentators just keep pointing out the mistakes that he got and not his advantage. When the women's gymnastic team lost 2 golds to the Chinese team, American just keep accusing the underage of the Chinese athletes and the misjudge of the judges. They never complain when they won. Also, the rest of the world is showing the ranking of medals by gold, yet only U.S. media shows they are on top with medal total, that is not fair to China being a better team this Olympic. American seems not appreciate China's success but keep putting down the Chinese team and accusing them. The Americans just think that they deserve every gold in the Olympic because they have the better athletes while other countries are losers

  1. The AMERICAN media caters to the AMERICAN audience..

The american audience is interested in the american participants, not the chinese or russian or the east germans(if they were still around)

I'm sure in China, the chinese news media glorifies the chinese teams, as they should.....

Everyone roots for their own heroes.....

  2. America always critizes china no matter what they do!

  3. 1) Ranking by number of medals, be it total medals or gold medals, is a very stupid thing per se, so there's no difference whether it's by total, or by gold medals

    2) China is the better team? Every team's great

Im from China too. Those Americans are absolutely having problems. So please don't be like them.

  4. hm-m-m, because they are selfish?

    :D

as any other country, they root for their national champions so it's no wonder they pay less attention to any other sportsmen achievements

  5. first of all I resent your generalization. This olympic games is just like the others ive watched for the past 40 years. Too many people try to inject politics into it or make nasty negative unfair comments about the other side like angry spiteful children.

If you dont like the US media, then don't listen to it... I have grown tired of the USA's media's coverage ( its just so melodramatic i cant stand it anymore). I agree that all they want to cover is the USA's success stories but as has already been stated, they are covering the games for their own American network viewers. Nobody forces you to watch it.

Personally, I have enjoyed watching all the athletes demonstrate their abilities regardless of race or nationality. I dont care who wins the most medals. Too much emphasis is already put on who's got the best, and who's got the most.... Too bad it comes down to that......

You prove yourself wrong when you state that Chinese dont complain. Your post is one long complaint.

  6. This is one of the down sides of the Olympics for me. Everyone says before the games start that it's about sports, then they keep count like it is a matter of life or death. I don't like that. I also think the US media has it wrong. Americans also love underdogs. We would love to hear more about the little countries. As for China, it is all politics. I hate the US stance toward China, especially in the Olympics. It has been one long report about what's wrong with China. I don't even watch the Olympics anymore.

  7. hi,

i think , this is the life style in US.

Not only Sport, for the every-things,they say "WE ARE THE BEST" and i think they have a wrong  education systems...

  8.    I searched the net and found some articles concerning the Olympics as they appeared in the Chinese Press and on their TV outlets. If you are so concerned about US reports why are you not concerned about the Chinese Media which elevates Chinese athletes to astronomical heights?

  9. The same reason fans of any team act like that... It's not that they're trying to make the Chinese team look bad, it's that they're trying to make the American team look good, because most American's are going to be pulling for the American athletes. Nobody likes to see their team get their butt handed to them :)

I haven't watched any other country's media coverage of the Olympics, but I'm sure you'll see something similar.

  10. Who fcukin' care!

American media goes back to American!

Chinese people do not welcome American media!

  11. CXfan, what you say is a fact.

But don't forget to look at the Chinese press (print and TV): count the number of columns and photos dedicated to the Chinese athletes' victories. Compare that with the columns dedicated to the other countries's athletes. You will observe a large imbalance in terms of coverage. This is not very fair.

To the credit of the Chinese press (the Chinese government, in fact), the coverage is not critical of the other nations' athletes. I haven't read in the Chinese press any negative criticism about the American athletes. So from that viewpoint, your disappointment is understandable when you hear American sports anchors criticizing the Chinese athletes' performances. It is unfair.

But you have to rethink your issue when you talk about the medal count. You state that China is the better team in these Olympics based on the number of gold medals. Is this viewpoint fair to the other 2 athletes on each podium, and the nations which helped them reach these steps (silver and bronze)? It takes a country to put an athlete on the podium, whatever the step he/she is on. If "Team China" has won the most gold, "Team America" has won the most medals so far. In terms of 'national pride', it owuld be fair to concede that the US have (as a nation) done a good job at helping a greater number of their athletes to reach the podium.

I think your argument ("China is the better team at these Olympics") lacks in objectivity in this regards. Possibly because you are irritated by the lack of objectivity of the American press. And truly, American journalists are irritating -- and not just in these circumstances.

But don't let their shortcomings anger you. Admire the US as a country for their overall score. And keep admiring and loving China and the Chinese athletes for the wonderful performance they gave the audience at these Olympics.

The journalists who criticized the Chinese athletes will be dead and completely forgotten long before the names of the stellar athletes have disappeared from the tablets of history. Most of the American sports anchors have no sport record of their own, and only trained their mouths to talk. Dogs train their mouths too (by barking). So let the dogs bark at the tree, and keep your own temper in balance and in harmony with the world.

    Do well.

  12. Are we watching the same program as you are? Cause for NBC the hosts are alwyas complementing the chinese gymnast. Last night, they just complemented one of the chinese gymnast and said that he's the best at the still rings. And they do always point out the mistakes that each gymnast from different countries even US. Besdies the girls do look younger than 16. I don't think you can deny that. And its unfair to have a younger girl becuase they are lighter and more flexible than the girls that are above the age of 16 as their bodies have matured.

  13. I just read an article on Yahoo, and it almost made me laughed. According to the writer the Chinese girl is 12 years old he's so sure of it, and according to his judgment that China will only have 1 more gold than the US... now who decided he's a better judge than those on the floor? That guy's just full of siht... and guess what... People in this country really believe what they read when they read an biased article... just like the presidential race... I wonder how many of them actually know what Obama/McCain stand for... all they know is 1 stands for HIGHER TAX and the other is all about OIL AND WAR... nope... do more research and see how biased those writers can be. Depiction is not a bad word to describe the media.

One more thing I forgot to mention... remember Paul Hamm?? He messed up big time and still took the Gold away from the Korean back in 2004 at the Olympics. US media didn't cry about that. Later, one of the judges who gave Hamm the highest score was fired 'cause he cheated. Not only Paul Hamm didn't have to give up his Gold medal, the media failed to mention how unfair it is to the Korean gymnast.

This is how close it was... 2004 at Athens - Men's artistic individual all around.

    Paul Hamm: 57.823

Kim Dae-Eun of Korea had  57.811 points...

So people need to calm down and stop being sore losers.

  14. Did u see that old Russian guy on NBC camplaining about Lukin lost the gold because of the tie breaker for 10 minutes?

But when they won the golds, he was like "yea they deserve it, they are the best..."

  15. One of the reasons the Olympic Games (no matter who hosts them) irritate me is that because the meaning has been lost.  It is supposed be a contest between individuals, in a spirit of friendly competition--not a jingoistic "we're the best".  The USA is no more or less guilty of making it a bunch of patriotic cheerleading than any other nation--including PRC.

Cheating has always been a problem too.  The so-called "amateurs" from the former USSR were usually Red Army soldiers--but their only job was training for the games.  I wonder how many of them knew which end of a rifle the bullet came out.

It is, however, unfair and unkind to say the USA won by cheating.  The individual American athletes won their medals through effort and training and spirit and guts and courage--just like the Chinese atheletes.  I admire the winners from both nations.

  16. Right to those above! American media caters to the American audience as the Chinese media caters to the Chinese audience.

I know this first hand, because I am an American living in China.  Please do not tell me CCTV 1,2,3,4 however many there are does not show both live and recorded airings of the events the Chinese are strong in.

I've been watching Ping Pong and Badminton so much lately, I'm going cross-eyed.

  17. because they think the chinese are evil.

  18. I will still like to use the chinese proverbs: "a person who do not attract jealousy from others, is a loser".

China is gettting a lot of jealousy from everywhere ;-)

    Dear China,

Please Keep up to the good work. Do what is right. Do not care what others feel / think about you. Although i am not Chinese, although i do not live in China, but me and my family are still spiritually supporting you.

From this olympic game, we wish you can learn more and achieve more (not only in the sports). Open your heart with new ideas and beliefs, that helps transform your country into a better place for all mankind.

    Best wishes !

  19. It's not that we don't appreciate China for their efforts necessarily. It's because China does some questionnable things. I'm positive that all those gymnasts were under the age of 16. All but one of them anyway. Also, the Chinese train their athletes like slave labor from the time when they're little children twelve hours a day. Those training camps they have are what I call "athletic sweatshops." They only get to see their parents maybe 4 days a year. I think that's what a lot of it boils down to. They did show and appreciate China's efforts. Didn't you see the footage last night of Lu Xiang trying to run the track, but he couldn't because he was too injured. They showed how frustrated he was and how he was in terrible agony because of his achilles tendon. You don't think that's appreciating China's efforts?

  20. (1) The American media reports news that Americans want to read.  Americans like to root for their countrymen.  It is the same in China.  See http://tinyurl.com/5z2gdx

Phelps still no household name in China

"As Phelps got closer to No. 8, he got more live television coverage on China's state-run CCTV. But, like NBC, it devotes most of its coverage to its own athletes and their remarkable success. Likewise, Chinese sports papers have dedicated 90 percent of their space to Chinese athletes."

The best Olympic Athlete of all time (8 golds in one Olympics) and Phelps wasn't getting much coverage.  On the other hand I know a lot of the Gymnasts, Divers, and Volleyball players from China because of the coverage they were getting in America.

    (2) The NBC coverage has been very complimentary of the Chinese team.  In Gymnastics they talked about how great each athlete was and how nearly impossible it would be to beat them as they are the favorite for gold.  I was watching the beach volleyball match between the Chinese and American team yesterday and the announcers were saying how amazing the Chinese team is and how impressive they are for being so young.  They said multiple times how they were going to be very tough to beat in the next few years because of their age.

    (3) As for the female gymnastic members who looked young--there's more to it than that.  There are news reports from Xinhua news service that even prove they are too young.  See http://tinyurl.com/63tsh3  It's not like Americans are just making stuff up that has no basis in reality.

  21. I completely agree, and i feel so bad for the Chineese, they're working thier buts off and getting no appreciation what so ever, can you imagine working you whole life for something and then when you get it you get accused of cheating. The US is just jelous that they cant beat china. And i know, NBC is so biased and annoying, they have the worst coverage ever. I'm Canadian so im obviouly rooting for team Canada but also for China, they're great athletes so i support thema ll the way and from everyhting im seeing from the US ,i hope that china beats them in all of the events. And also , i checked the medal standings today, and China is wayyyyyyy ahead in gold medals and there only two behind for total of medals   :)
