Why does UPS (United Parcel Service) ask for your last name when they deliver you a package?

Usually the person delivering asks you to sign electronically for a package then for your last name. I was just wondering if anyone had some insight on this. Thanks

I think they try to verify if your that person or not so they kind of have an idea of who got the package.Maybe they have had some lost ones so need to be more cautious.........

To verify the signature on the pad,,,sometimes people claim they never got the package and the company will ask the driver to verify the signature.
