  1. oh i think is because in UTAH is all desert and not a lot of people live there and if they make a lottery not a lot of people would but it!!!

and the prize is the money that they get from all the people that bought the lottery!

and the lottery thing is a bisnes and they keep a part of it!

so yeah idl if is that or if something else!/

  2. Because of the LDS church, state laws prohibits any type of gambling in the state, including casinos, lottery, even bingo halls.  You cannot pay to win money or even prizes.

On a side note based on other answers, liquor can only be purchased at a state liquor store.  Only beer is sold at grocery stores.  Because of that the state regulates sales and profits from the sales because of the marked up prices.  Beer that is sold at grocery stores only has a 3.2% alcohol content.

As a non-mormon born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah the laws are not strange to me but I can see why it can be and confusing to others.

  3. it is a major mormon state and it has effects on their laws

other "vice" is more strictly regulated because of that

  4. Probably because they are ultra conservative out there. They do not want the crime, corruption and gambling addictions that come along with a state lottery.

    Just a theory.

  5. Do Mormons have a religious prohibition against gambling? I would guess it is that.

For the most part, Utah is the "Mormon" state. I believe alcohol is regulated more strictly than most states based on Mormon religious beliefs also.
