Question:

Why does Vietnam have to be a reason to vote for McCain?

I was a little irritated by Palin's talk tonight about McCain's time in Vietnam bing the only candidate who has "fought for America"...that war was not about the American People or their freedom...the poor soldiers sent there were not fighting for our freedom, our freedom was not in jeopardy because Ho Chi Minh wanted to have an independent country like America. The soldiers may have initially believed that they were defending our freedom (except for the ones who were drafted and knew the truth)....They were fighting a civil war and were doing it because the US government was afraid of Communist China and Russia...the Domino Effect was a lie, Vietnam would not have joined up with China...they wanted to be a free country, allowed to govern themselves.

I don't think it should be a reason to vote for him and yet it keeps being a major selling point.

  1. she said that about him being the only one who fought for America because Obama and Biden were talking about how they will "fight for us" but they really won't..not in any meaningful way, like risking one's life.

  2. It is not the only reason , but yes it matters. The president is The Commander in Chief to the military. It matters to me.

  3. Yeah for realz. McCain's time in Vietnam, even as a POW, does not automatically qualify him to be the Commander in Chief. There are other things we must consider.

  4. I completely agree that this should be no reason to vote for McCain. Actually it would be a terrible reason to vote for him. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think that we should be appreciative of his service. Though, we shouldn't vote for a president based on his war credentials alone. Just because you have gone to war does not mean that you are necessarily capable of leading a country. Mr. McCain is a bit of a lapdog. He is doing what the presidents before him have done. We need a fresh face, something new that can bring a change to America. We have already dug a large enough hole, we might as well start on a different path to see if it can lead somewhere prosperous. It is hard to believe that going a different route could possibly put us in a worse situation than we are now!

  5. Just because he served this country (while that is honorable, don't get me wrong) that doesn't automatically qualify him to be president. George Bush was in the service and gosh, look at him . . . . .

  6. It is not the only reason, however it tells you a lot about the mans character.
