Why does a GPS System "honk" once in awhile?

While on a 1800 mile driving trip, our GPS was really nice and useful. However, every once in awhile it would let out 1 "honk" and it was so funny. Does anyone know what triggers it to do that?

  1. Sinus problems with high altitudes?

A GPS can only do what its programmed to do. If you mention the brand and model, you might get more help. My GPS has never honked a day in its life.
