Question:

Why does a New York speeding ticket NOT give the amount to pay?

I got a speeding ticket in NY. (83- in a 65)

The ticket does not tell me how much it will be. I have to mail it in and make a plea first. I cannot/will not drive to NY to contest it...but I do plan to write a letter in my defence.

Question- how much will the ticket be?

and

will the letter serve a purpose or is it mandatory to show up?

Thanks

  1. They will send you a more detailed explination in the mail including the amount you need to pay and where to send payment. This happened to my brother after he got a ticket for not paying in a toll booth at 3am driving down from Canada last year during the holidays. As ruthless as it sounds - even if the booth doesn't have a human there you are to pay for driving on that highway. It isn't any different for your speeding ticket

I just went through your question again - probably best you get in touch with someone in NY about this. I am just going by what my brother had to go through.

  2. Because it is up to the judge to decide how much you pay, not the police department.
