Why does a cat purr??

I have a 3 year old cat and since she was little she likes to get on my bed, puts the sheet in her mouth and starts to purr.

I have heard that they do it for healing purposes but if it was so, I'd think shed be dead by now!! Others say cause they miss der mum...is this true?

  1. i think it is partially because that is how she was fed by her mother when she was small.

    and no its not true that they miss there mum

  7. Cats purr for different reasons, most of the time it is pleasure/comfort. Other times it's to calm or sooth themselves from illness or pain

    1: in a time of stress it is used to calm down. Just like us taking deep breathes

    2: when a cat is hurt (physcially) Helps the healing process

    3: their way of saying, i luv you, i trust you. .

    No healing powers, but maybe the next time I'm ill I'll take a purring cat and see if I get better. Who knows!
