  1. All employers need to see is "felony". They don't care about the details.

  2. Here's why. Take a hypothetical meeting with an employer. The employer's got three employees with no rap sheets, and one who bumbled as a youth and was caught with an illegal sidearm. While the man or woman with the rap is probably also an honest worker, there's going to be more red flags around them, especially if the incident occured in the person's recent past.

It's a game of competition, basically, and when the economy sours, there's a big pool for even menial work. Thus, people with minor records might get denied from even bottom-tier fastfood work.

If this is you and you're trying to go straight, my condolences and I hope you soon find a job that matches your interests and skills level.

  3. I also may depend on how long away this occurred.
