Question:

Why does a cup of coffee remain cold when it is in the sun yet soda seems to become warmer sitting in the sun?

It does seem that coffee remains always cold when it cools, yet soda or water being cold to start with seems to become warmer regardless whether either the coffee or soda/water is placed in the sun. Wouldn't one expect the coffee to warm up by the sun exposure much like that with the soda/water??

  1. the coffee started off hot and thus becomes colder and the water started off cold and gets hot
