Why does a dark matt surface get hotter than a dark shiny surface?

  1. black and dark coloured surfaces absorb heat but white or light reflect it.


  2. The word "shiny" is your answer. If it reflects light it may well also reflect heat (infra red light), unlike the matt surface which absorbs it.

  3. Your answer is partly in the question,the shiny surface is reflecting away some kinds of radiation;those you can see.If you could see the matt surface under a fairly low power microscope you would see  it as hills and caves; so a lot of radiation(heat and light)is trapped in the caves and absorbed.The matt surface is more nearly what scientists call a 'black body';one which traps all radiation falling on it.
