Why does a dryer only turns one way?

This way the larger items (ie: bed sheets) have the tendency to tangle around smaller items and when that happens it doesn't dry well. Any ideas ?

  1. It probably has something to do with the centrifigal force, or how once it's spinning one way it requires less energy to continue spinning in that direction.  So if you were to switch directions say 4 times each drying cycle.  it would increase your electric bill.  And usually sheets dry faster cause they tend to be thinner so they usually don't take 30 minutes.  So you can take out and fold while waiting on jeans to dry.

  2. Its merely impossible to turn both ways

  3. You're right, it would be better if they reverse direction periodically.  However, that would complicate the mechanism quite a bit, so they don't bother.

  4. you can purchase driers that turn both ways and I have one made by hotpoint and its great, clothes come out relatively crease free.
