  1. Any noise can echo provided there is a surface to bounce the sound back before the sound dissipates to much to be heard.  Ducks spend most of their time on flat bodies of water with surroundings that absorb the sound (water, plants, etc.) and which do not provide a good sound-reflective surface.  Or they are in flight and the quack get swallowed up before it can be bounced.

I have heard ducks and geese make enough noise to make echos in lakes bounded by cliffs.

  2. A duck's quack does echo. It is a common misconception that it doesn't, and has been disproved on the show "Mythbusters".

It was found that the quack and the echo have very similar waveforms, which makes it difficult to hear when the quack ends and the echo begins. It appears as if the real quack "swallows" the echo.

  3. Where the h**l does this stupid idea come from? It's patently bullshit. I mean, think about it for a second, people...

  4. it actually does echo
