  1. For a lot of people, they don't just go well together only after a good meal, they simply go well together period. There is probably a powerful synergistic effect from the nicotine and alcohol, which stimulates the "pleasure center" of the brain, more than either can do alone. After a meal, blood sugar levels are usually higher, and serotonin tends to be stimulated by eating a pleasurable meal, especially a high carb meal. The synergy between alcohol, nicotine, and serotonin is very powerful and gives a profound sense of pleasure in many people. I'm not advocating people drink and smoke for pleasure, and this isn't based on personal experience but my observations of others and readings. I never smoke anything and I never drink; the few times I tried alcohol I didn't feel pleasure at all but instead felt "strange", confused and a little grumpy. It doesn't effect everyone the same way.

Of course, smoking tobacco is dangerous and unhealthy and it would be wise to quit. It may be pleasurable now, but there's nothing pleasurable about eventually getting lung cancer, emphasema, heart disease or other diseases it increases the risks for. Of course, you don't have to wait for years to gain all the other benefits of smoking - yellowing of teeth and increasing the risks of dry mouth and gingivitis, bad ashtray breath, yellowing of fingers, speeding up the aging process and wrinkling, ruining your complexion, making your hair and clothing stink, the inconvenience it causes at work with having to take smoke breaks, increasing the risk of getting a cold or flu, limiting who you can date, etc. All these wonderful benefits are immediate, luckily.

The combined effects of tobacco and alcohol(both of them are carcinogens) are deadlier than either alone, which is the dangerous side of the magical synergy between these two substances. Studies indicate that alcohol can significantly increase the risk of breast cancer in women, even "moderate" drinking. Alcohol can even increase the risks of stomach, throat and liver cancer. We often hear about studies supposedly "proving" how good wine or alcohol in general is in "moderation", but the studies on alcohol's health benefits have at best mixed results, and these health benefits often have little to do with the actual alcohol(its often what accompanies it) - you can usually get all the same benefits from eating a lot of fruits and vegetables or drinking grape juice, without the health risks of alcohol. You will never hear a doctor recommend a non-drinking patient take up even "moderate" drinking to prevent cancer or heart disease; it would be medically irresponsible to do so. I hope this helps.
