Why does a tv makes a line in the center of the screen?

WHEN I TURN ON MY TV, IT JUST MAKES A LINE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN . THERE IS SOUND BUT NO IMAGEN

  1. If CRT and the line is horizontal ( across ) it is definitely loss of vertical deflection as out lined by Mike B !If you are lucky it may be just bad soldered joints on the vertical amp chip , failing that it may want the chip replacing , they are not expensive ! ( $10 ) or so ! Definitely not the CRT !!!

  2. If it's a pic tube type, then it's not the tube. You have problems in the vertical output  circuit. A straight line can indicate a bad output ic chip. Could be other problems in this area too, but that's where I'd start looking first.

  3. If the tv is a LCD tv then the screen could possibly be cracked...  If it is a regular tv then it could be that the picture tube is about to go out.... It all depends on what type of tv you have and is going on with the tv... Be blessed I hope that my answer could help some at least...
