Why does a washer on a bath tap need replacing regularly?

The washer on the hot tap of my bath seems to need replacing every 4 - 6 months. Could there be a reason for this frequency?

both previous answers are right,if you are turning it off too hard (cranking it) it will wear out. I replaced washers in tub faucet where people were used to turning it off hard and had to go back and replace them in one week. The washer compresses against a seat, and if seat has a nick in it, it will wear out prematurely.

could be that ur turning the tap too much and wearing down  the washer. try turning it more gentlier and stop turning it when the water stops.

Could be the seat  that the washer seals against is nicked or worn also.
