  1. the taste grows on you, and as you grow older, you realize it smooth to drink, relaxing, also

  2. I'm not going to say anything about age or grammar or even about drinking bad beer.

Beer isn't meant to be sweet like pop. Well, some are meant to be sweet, but I'm going to assume you didn't have a Mother's Milk Stout. Beer has a flavor profile all it's own and must be appreciated for it. Don't compare it to what you're familiar with or you'll end up drinking alcopops...which make you look like you're a girl.

Or you can look at it like this...Kids like McDonald's. Adults like steak. Your palate will develop and you'll appreciate complex flavors.

  3. I'm an adult and I can't say that I love beer. I find it absolutely revolting. The taste is absolutely horrid. Like really stale or bad seltzer. To each his own though. It's an acquired taste and I know lots of people that love beer.

My boyfriend loves beer, he'll drink so many at a time but he told me when he first tried it that he though it was disgusting, and after a while he grew to like it.

I don't like the term "acquired taste" though. I mean if you try it and hate it, why FORCE yourself to like it? Just drink something else. I don't get it when people say they hated it, yet kept drinking it, why prolong the torture of drinking something bad? lol.

  4. Some people like bitter.

The young American palate has been ruined by sweets that rot your teeth.

  5. As you age, your taste buds change. I personally love bitter drinks, from black coffee to India Pale Ales. However, not all beer is bitter. It's not sweet like a soda, but there is plenty that has a lot of sweetness. As you mature, you'll probably like it more.

  6. Its an acquired taste with desirable side effects

  7. as we age, our hormones changes so does our taste buds.

and some adults love being drunk or buzzed.

  8. A liking for sweet things is the first to develop. Then, you develop a liking for sour things. Then salty things. A taste for bitter things is the last to develop.

If you don't like bitter beer, stay away from the megabrews and IPAs and the like. Go for the maltier brews, such as Scotch ales and bocks.

  9. Too much to say about this but I will try.

Some people like bitter and some do not.

Ask yourself this. Why do children love super-sour candy?

This is a great question since bitter is a natural signal that a food is potentially dangerous. Plants in nature that are bitter often are poisonous. So it would be a natural response to avoid foods that are bitter. Ah, but nature is crafty indeed. She knows this fact and has allowed many plants to develop bitter flavors were no danger exists. In this way animals & people avoid it preserving the plants life.

For me it was love a first gulp. Sorry lady who does not like beer and does not believe in  "acquired taste." The fact is that for many people any food is an acquired taste. It was theorized in early studies of sensory analysis that sweet was the one taste that is not acquired. This was based on sweet mother’s milk. The first food many consumed. But it was found that many people do not like sweetness in foods. Today, no one knows for a certainty how a person develops a preference for any flavor. But one of the leading theories is the numbers and types of taste buds an individual possess.

Across are tongue are dispersed taste buds that are specific to a flavor. Traditionally it was 4 and then a fifth was added. But now sensory science has been researching the complexities of the phenomenon of the myriad of flavors. For example, how do we each determine the flavor of strawberries? Chemical analysis has determined more than 360 chemicals work in concert known as strawberry flavor. Leading the researchers to believe their exists either more taste buds or another mechanism for taste other than the trigeminal senses.

Another theory evolves around the number of a particular taste bud. For those that are sensitive to sweet for example, it is believed that they posses a greater number of the sweet taste buds. For our beer question it could be the people that like bitter have a low number of bitter taste buds. Thus a less bitter flavor is detected. Conversely, some may possess a great number of bitter taste buds and thus sensitive to bitter foods.

A yet another thought is the strength of functionality of the taste bud. Does it process all of the concentration of the taste or only a portion? The more that it processes the greater the sensation of taste.

Many other things affect taste as well. Do you have sinus condition that prevents your ability to smell? The olfactory sense is paramount is the phenomena of taste. Allergies and colds could play a role in our ability to sense flavor in foods. {Experiment: Pinch your nose and eat or drink something. Notice that you are unable to taste it. } What we eat can effect our ability to detect flavors. =Mouthwash, coffee, too much water or not enough, etc. =  can negatively effect sensory perception.

  10. I felt the same way when i was young but then you realize most people don't drink bear for taste. They drink to get drunk.

Also it may take a while before your body starts to react to it when you first start.

  11. The difference between adults drinking and young adults drinking is adults usually drink as a social thing or to have a cold drink after a rough day at work, a young adult drinks to get drunk.

I am 24, and up until a year ago I hated drinking beer. I am a bartender and one day I just decided I wanted a cold beer, so now I must be in the mood to drink beer but I do. Usually when my girl friends and I go out for wings, or we are at a party. Its much easier to open a beer then mix a drink when at a party with a lot of people. You can keep track of what you have more.

So as you grow up, your taste buds change what you like, and who knows maybe in a few years you will enjoy the taste.

    Cheers!
