Why does an extension cord have both a conductor and an insulator, and which part is which?

  1. The wires in the extension cord is covered by plastic .The copper wire is coductor and the coverin g is insulator.


  2. The conductor consists of the metal (usually copper or aluminum) wires and the insulator is the plastic coating between and around the conductor which prevents electrical shorting between wires and between the wires and you.
