  1. Only when it offers a free CD or DVD.

  2. Hi!! again , I can think of a dozen reasons ,as you say apart from the obvious. Political comment from a slanted media point of view, The broad sheets ie, Times, and FT, for the stock market comment, advice, prices that would not be available on the internet. Sports news and the analysis in depth  comments. Then the crossword addics, and other puzzles. Consessions, and freebies.

    Need i go on?.

  3. I read my two local semi-weekly rags because there's not much coverage of the Cowichan Valley in any of the majors. I do also indulge in a broadsheet now and then when I need a real news fix, although I do read NY Times (Canada's favorite American Newspaper) on-line edition and leaf trough the Vancouver papers while I'm at the coffee shop.

A newspaper is not just a cultural icon, it is a cultural engine.

Every small town that has a vital cultural life has a viable local newspaper. I can always tell when some newcomer has embraced the this place because they start to read the local paper.

The news that really matters is in the paper...CNN won't be covering the zoning variance hearing next Tuesday at the 1st United Church gymnasium at 7:30.The women's auxiliary has baked pound cake and  cookies.

  4. I like to relax with a cigarette and read it, also I do the crosswords

  5. Once in awhile I will buy a paper to read on a long train journey or if a friend of mine is in it or if there is big news going on and I want to keep it for scrapbooking. But it has been a long time since I have subcribed to a paper. I never got around to reading it much.

  6. I re-use them for lining the guinea pig cage, torn up for cat litter, putting around the base of strawberry plants, plus I like the feel of a paper and its more portable than a laptop for taking to work ,reading on the train, bus etc.

  7. Because sometimes, you do not want to stare at a computer screen all of the time. It's a much more pleasurable experience lying in your lounge or on a common with your friends on a Sunday with all the supplements around you.

    Wake up people....

  8. I generally read the free London papers for entertainment and only buy the Saturday Guardian.  It's partly out of habit, but it's also convenient and I like sitting in the kitchen looking through the paper and chatting with my partner about articles that catch my eye.  Sometimes we'll then fire up the computer to check details on news stories or get background information.

  9. For the different purpose

  10. To waste money and depress themselves. Why wld i spend money to read that some young lad has been shot, stabbed or beaten. There's nothing in there thats gonna make u happy is there?

  11. Too true. I get all my info reading online.

  12. because our world is already modern we can also use television, radios,Internet, and many more or some people are already lazy.

  13. Security blanket in most cases.

If i have to wait anywhere in public or travel on the train etc. i'll buy a paper so i don't have to look at or interact with anyone.

Ed: Anyone know where i can get a good psychiatrist?

  14. Good point - I have wondered that myself!

  15. Fly swatter..... very handy.

  16. I tend to read more when it's in a newspaper format. I will cherry-pick the headlines on line, but I'm much more likely to pick up interesting stories if they are in front of me.

A newspaper is, of course, portable, and it's the biggest bargain out there. You can learn an awful lot for half the price of a soft drink.

  17. I don't buy one, but I have access to a University library where I can read them for free.

Much as I like reading the news on the internet, I must say I prefer reading a newspaper instead.

  18. I have never bought newspapers, because I learnt at a very young age - they would only tell me things I actually didn't want to know!

  19. We are having it delivered on a special...$1 per week for 12 weeks...no obligation to renew at the regular price.  It's really a deal...just the Sunday paper costs $1.50 at newsstands.

I prefer reading (especially) the Sunday paper in its entirety...ads, classifieds and all.  It is simpler than looking everything up at the site...the Sunday paper is huge.

  20. Everyday, but only for the crosswords and code breaker.

  21. if i really want to read the headlines then i will by it, or if i am running early to pick the kids up from school and want something to do whilst i am sat there...quite occasional though, apart from the local paper...i often get that

  22. I do, I still like reading believe it or not....and I am not using electricity....and I can take my time over doing the crossword, and its hard to take the lap top into the toilet when I am having a sh*t.

  23. Its the nostalgia feeling that get from reading the papers I guess. Maybe it makes them feel like they're back in old times. I only read the newspapers when they are sitting on the tables during my lunch breaks at work. I get most of my news through the internet and cable news.

  24. If it isn't real greasy inky newsprint, it isn't real fish & chips..
