Why does apple juice come in cans?

I know it comes in other packaging, but why does apple juice come in big cans?

I don't like the tinny taste it gives the juice.

Does it keep the juice fresher longer?

What's the point?

I don't get it.

  1. Cans are just another way to package food.  Actually a very old way.  Canning dates back to Napoleon times.  I agree that it gives a tinny taste and sometimes that's what people want but not for juice.  And of course it's not just apple juice but all juices can be tinned as well as other food.

Cans have the advantage of protecting food from light and oxygen.  Plastic bottle cannot.  Glass is sometimes difficult to thermoprocess because of its small coefficient of expansion.

So there are lots of reasons why a company would use cans.
