They ask so they can push the correct button on there machines. Also cheese costs more at most fast food resturants so it is a way to suggestive sell items without looking pushy. The difference in the taste depends on you. If you like cheese or not.

they ask you cheese or no because the price is maybe diffrent with cheese (extra)..like if you go to ruby tuesdays and ask for a glass of water, they will put a lemon in it and charge 75 cents...so you have to be aware of sneaky charges
